As old saying goes: “A year of snow, crops will grow”. Based on time proven knowledge, we should expect the bountiful harvest as this January in Montsant and many parts of Spain was marked with white snow cover that we haven´t seen in decades.
Have you ever wondered if cold winter with snow is actually good or bad for the vines? Thus it results that as long as it doesn´t get below -10C , there are more positive than negative effects! To name just a few, snow is a natural hydrant: it melts little by little, penetrating and feeding the slopes’ aquifers. Secondly, cold temperatures and snow serve as natural pesticide that kills harmful pests and parasites. Thus real winter is a blessing both for our eyes and for the dormant vines!
